Urban Philosophy Projects 07/02/10
A brief mention about some projects that are happening, and an overall thank you to the community.
Authored by: Mitchell LeBlanc.
As some of you may already be aware, UrbanPhilosophy started with the goal of overseeing various ‘projects’. Shortly thereafter, the format of the website was changed to allow the user submission of articles. Since that point, the project side of UP.net has gone largely ignored.
With that said, I am proud to introduce our new Projects page today, which will list various projects in which some members of UP are engaged. Familiar to many will be the Phronesis project, UP’s documentary film project which focuses on bringing philosophical questions to the general population. While the first ‘season’ had only three episodes, and was noticeably in its infant stages, it will return this Spring with some fresh topics, a slightly different format and overall what we hope to be a more polished product.
Our most recent addition is a role-playing game being headed by one of our members. The game, Blasphe-Me, is “…an attempt to recreate the style of an old-school SNES roleplaying game, with contemporary themes and a healthy dose of humour. Religion (and irreligion) are central, as well as the divide between science and quackery, reason and madness, and of course Good and Evil.” The game is still in the alpha stages, but why not download it and try it out?
Of course, if you have an idea for a project, be sure to contact us and let us know. If it’s something we are interested in, we may be able to provide some resources and assistance.
Also, very rarely on the front page do I get to speak personally and ‘off-the-record’, but I’d like to personally thank everyone who has contributed thus far to the website, be it through articles, comments or stimulating chat room discussions. A community is only as good as its members and while many of us disagree with each other on a wide array of philosophical topics there is, I think, some benefit in the discourse we share. Lastly, thank you to all of the regular readers! Our readership is growing steadily and that is very exciting. We have also seen a small increase in article submission. While not all articles are approved (I’ve sadly had to deny some), I encourage you all to think about submitting your thoughts so that your ideas may become everyone’s wisdom.
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
